Storytime: Our First Physical Hello

4th September, 2016. 5.30am AEST. I sleepily said good morning to you on Skype, my nerves slightly muted from drowsiness. My brain wouldn’t allow me to comprehend that my life would be changing drastically by the next day; I was too focused on the fear of travelling alone for 20+ hours for the first time. We had some small talk, but it was mostly unspoken emotions being exchanged. We were both terrified of the unknown. "We broke apart for a few seconds, only to mutually feel weirded out by making eye contact for the first time and then pulled each other...

Balancing a Social Life in a Long Distance Relationship

Previous Post: Things NOT to Say to Someone in a Long Distance Relationship For the LDR community, weekends often involve staring into the pixelated abyss of your partners face and finding ways to entertain yourself on the technological platform. No matter how little or long your relationship has existed, it’s extremely important to understand that while you’re apart, you must take care of yourself. Things NOT to Say to Someone in a Long Distance Relationship

Being in a long-distance relationship already sucks, but you just get reminded of that every time a possibly well-intentioned (but mostly insensitive) comment is thrown your way. These comments get real old, real fast. Here are just some of the top offenders I’ve heard over the past six years my partner and I have been together. (Caution this article contains serious attitude)! [caption id="attachment_1326" align="aligncenter" width="500"] F. B. Productions, 20th Century Fox, H. Hi Andy & Joana! Tell us a little about yourselves. "Our first meet can be defined in one word: awkward." We're a long distance couple both from Portugal. Even though we are both from the same country we are rarely together because we live in different cities and don't have the schedule or the money to be together every week. We started talking in September 16th of 2015 and since then we just kept getting more interested in each other and fell in love. None of us were out of the closet at the time so we couldn't meet, Andy's...

Advice for Keeping on Top of the Distance

As we all know, LDR’s rely on many traits such as trust, communication, and commitment; but not only that, sometimes you also need a little bit of luck. What is so great about the LDR community is that we all are involved in our own little unique situations, but are still united in one final goal. However, some of us have also been luckier than others. Some of us are a train away, whereas some are a couple of flights away. Some of us have more time and money at our disposal to go and meet our partners, whereas, unfortunately,...

Guest Post: The Two Types of Long Distance Relationships

Dark nights cuddled up to a bright screen listening to your partner’s breathing. That’s the base of a long distance relationship. No matter how it started and no matter how it ends, we’ve all been there, praying for the distance to disappear and for the illusion of the screen to become real. Whether distance is all you know, or you’re adapting to the new daily routine of miles apart, all LDR couples feel the same weight of each mile. They may just see each mile a little differently. The Two Types of LDRs Met Online When a long distance couple...

Now that we've explored how to get the cheapest tickets through a few little tweaks to your browsing habits, we can now explore where. How to Find the Cheapest Airline Tickets | Part One

Timing Absolutely Matters CheapAir.com conducted their own study in 2014 with 1.5 billion airfares and 4,986,522 trips, tracking the lowest ticket prices from 320 days in advance to 1 day in advance. What they found (shown in the graph below) was that the prime time to buy a plane ticket was anywhere between 27-114 days in advance. Moral of the story here is to not wait for last-minute deals and to buy your ticket 1-4 months in advance. However, don’t buy your ticket too early either. Buying more than 80 days in advance showed to be non-advantageous. Even I was surprised...
