Cute, Fun & Helpful Apps for Long Distance Couples

There are hundreds of applications you can use to communicate with your significant other when they’re far away. There’s Skype, Google Hangout, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, I could go on! But sometimes, you just want something a little more intimate and just for the two of you; that’s where this list comes in!

Sometimes the choices can be overwhelming, and being in an LDR I can speak first hand for that. Hopefully this list helps you figure out where to start your search! Plus all the apps explained below are free!

Couple

This app lets you share a private timeline with your partner where you can both post photo, sketches, video, audio and text messages. There are some other features of the app too! There are shared lists and a simplified calendar for important dates. Also you both can share your music status, as well as current location (displayed with the time in your partner’s location too)! All the photos, videos, and sketches shared between you are complied into ‘moments’, which is basically just a folder to separate them from the timeline.
Two really cool features however are the live sketch and ‘Thumbkiss’. The live sketch is really fun, because you can both draw in real time on the same blank space in the app, and can share it to the timeline when you’re done! The ‘Thumbkiss’ is what really makes this app special! It’s a space in the app where you can touch the screen, and when your partner is touching their screen in the same spot, the app will change color and your phone will vibrate!

On the web they also have this cool ‘live map’ where you can see your messages and other people’s messages being sent across the world in real time.

You do have the option to ‘un-pair’ making the timeline inaccessible to the both of you. If you do decide to pair up again, no worries, Couple saves all your stuff!

Rabb.it

We all know how hard it can be to ‘Netflix and chill’ when you’re miles away from your partner, but this app makes it a little easier. ‘1..2..3.. play gets old’, it’s hard to sync, you have to do it every time one of you needs to leave the room- it can make movie night so frustrating! Rabbit has the solution! Basically, you sign up, create a room, invite your partner (they don’ have to make an account) and use their web browser within the application to watch Netflix, Hulu, Youtube or whatever! There is also virtual remote, and whoever has it can control the screen as well as give up control and let the other person take over. Within the app there is a text chat box as well as video chatting (which can be done with up to 15 people).

Without

This app is sweet and simple. It’s private photo sharing between you and your partner. When you send these photos however, you only have an option to put a ‘note’ on them. No filters, or stickers to cover up any blemishes, yikes! Personally though, I find that kind of nice. There of a ton of preset phrases, and you can make your own! The app also shows you the history of past notes, shows how many each of you sent and even lets you request a photo from your partner. On the bottom of the screen it alsotells you how many days since you’ve last seen them, and has location sharing on the main screen!

Dream Days

If you’re in a long distance relationship, chances are you’re counting down the days till you get to see your partners cute face in person. There are dozens of apps to help with that! Out of all the countdown apps, this one is my personal favorite.

It’s pretty simple, add a date for it to count to, maybe put a picture and voilà! There are however some other features that make this app pretty neat. For starters, you can back it up. So if you accidentally deleted the app, got a new phone, or even if your partner wants to sign into your profile, make an account and it’ll all be there. You can also put a passcode on the app, and even upload your countdowns to your phone’s calendar.
