DIY: Special Couple Coupons!

Fancy a cute gift idea? This past Christmas, my SO and I agreed not to spend any money on presents, so we had to make them. I made him a playlist, and designed a DVD case cover for it. Z, my boyfriend, made me a stack of affection and date idea coupons! It was adorable. Here’s how to make your own….

There are two different ways you could make these coupons: one being a little more work and one being way, way easier. I’ll focus on how to make them yourself for now but keep reading to the end to see the easier way to make these coupons!

Step One – Supplies:

  • Coloured Card
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Pens
  • Hole Puncher (or similar)
  • Stickers (optional)

The supplies you use depends on how creative you want to be. You can grab glitter, stickers, printed pictures or just about anything that you think your partner would love. Alternatively, you could also keep the design very simple and crisp. Both end up turning out amazing.

Step Two – Ideas:

When coming up with ideas, try to figure out what your SO would want. What do they like? What do you both enjoy doing together? These coupons are to make your partner feel special, but you should be able to have fun with them too. Here’s a few that Z used in mine:

  • “Long Kiss”
  • “Movie of your choice”
  • “Picnic”
  • “Massage”
  • “Day Trip”
  • “Long Cuddle”
  • “Skype Date”
  • “Game of your choice”
  •  etc.

Step Three – Be Creative!

Think about what shape you want the card coupons to be, make a template and cut out as many as you’ll need. I’ve seen heart shaped coupons, ovals, squares, stars; anything will be perfect! To figure out the number, write all of the ideas on a list, so you can tick them off as you go. After you write out all of the coupons, you can decorate them to make them really special.

After you’ve finished, get a few at a time and hole-punch them, making sure to get it as close to identical as possible, so that you can use the string to hold them together. A great personal touch is to have a note for your SO on the first card – something like “Dear ____, Merry Christmas/Happy Birthday/Happy Anniversary/etc., I hope you love these coupons that I made for you. You’re special and I want you to know that!”

Your coupons don’t need to be perfect. The coupons Z made for me are perfect because he made them, not bec

ause they look like a professional DIY artist did. Don’t be afraid to be creative because your partner will love them no matter what. The best part about this wonderful gift is that it’s personal and sentimental – half of the reason I love the ones I received was because I knew how much effort was put into making them.

Most importantly, have fun 🙂
