If you are in a long distance relationship, you know how important are reunions and have already (ideally) planned 1 or 2 visits in the coming months.
Nothing is more natural than to wish that the next reunion will be a M-E-M-O-R-A-B-L-E for both of you. If that’s what you want then you’ve come to the right article!
It must be confessed: reunions are the best parts of a LDR. After being separated for several weeks, months or even years, you finally end up creating lasting memories.
The first hug and the first kiss after seeing each other are just magical and make us quickly forget the pain and suffering that such love can cause.
After the first few minutes spent together, there are so many other epic moments to experience during your visit. That’s why I’ve put together a small list of 5 tips to do to get the most out of the visit with your lover and have an unforgettable reunion!
1. Plan the entire visit
I know it may seem surprising, but planning everything will save you a lot of time (and money) once together, and will give you the unique feeling of controlling everything, something that your partner can only notice and appreciate.
But what can you plan exactly?
- The “fun” stuff: the activities you want to do, where to go, the restaurants where you want to dine together, etc. Feel free to learn a lot about where the reunion will be (even if it’s your city!) And don’t forget to ask your partner’s opinion, of course.
- The “serious” stuff: the restaurant or ticket reservations for a visit, housing (with an intimate place for long mornings spent cuddling in bed), transportation (during the stay, before and after), the reunion timeline and your budgets.
A plan is practical, but it should not be followed as closely as possible.
Whether your plan is the best in the world, there is 100% chance that something unforeseen will happen. So, be flexible and agree to compromise.
Also, since it is not every day that you get to visit each other’s place, it would be fun to do something different with every visit. Bring your partner to places he/she has never been to. Do some crazy things together, explore and laugh more.
2. Prepare some conversation topics to break the ice
Conversation topics come and go. Sometimes it’s exciting and captivating, and sometimes it’s boring and uninteresting, even with the person you love.
I invite you to seek some conversation topics you would like to address in order to create more bound and interest with your partner.
However, avoid topics such as politics or religion, and talk about emotions and exciting topics. Childhood memories, projects, passions, hobbies or even some communication games (such as “Never I have ever”) are good examples.
3. Plan gifts for your lover
It’s a safe bet to say that your partner has prepared a gift for you, and will (unconsciously or not) expect the same from you. So you’d better bring something!
How to know what to bring?
During your discussions, try to find out what your partner loves the most, would like to have or wants the most. This will make your partner’s heart melt, to offer him/her a gift you know he/she would like, rather than a gift you guessed your partner would like.
- Tip # 1: Try to find out if your boyfriend/girlfriend prefers practical gifts or symbolic gifts, and buy one based on that.
- Tip # 2: Do not just give one present, but make sure you have a few if your reunion is lasting more than 1 or 2 days. Offer the best gift on the first day and don’t forget the goodbye gift!
There’s no need to offer something that is necessarily expensive, many gifts can work really well if given with love.
I also encourage you to create DIY surprises such as poems, songs, letters or drawings, if you want your partner to remember this visit forever.
4. Be proactive
You’re together for a few days, so make the most of your time.
Try to put off the obligations of your “normal” life (work, school, family, home, etc.) in order to devote the 24 hours of the day to your lover. It’s definitely worth it.
Thanks to the first point of this article, you have planned your reunion, so do not stay at home doing nothing!
Visit, explore, shop, travel. You can even invite or say hello to family and friends! The goal is to constantly do something.
This will transform your short reunion in a real vacation month. Not in terms of time spent together, but in terms of unforgettable memories you have created together.
By the way, if you can, spend some time with your partner’s family and get to know the people your partner hang out with. When you go for a visit make it known that you’d love to meet their loved ones, as it will reinforce your LDR.
During those encounters be very respectful and just be yourself; you’re now a member of the tribe!
5. Capture every moment
Absolutely the best way to immortalize your reunion and all your new memories together.
I recommend that you take A LOT of pictures. It does not matter what you do, as long as you’re having a good time together.
Another way to make your memories memorable is to spontaneously take videos. It’s very easy and very effective: take your smartphone or camera and record video clips on the fly. That’s it!
Even if during the filming of these clips, you don’t feel like they have any value, I promise you that after a few months they will be invaluable for you!
It will restore joy every time you watch them. Hence, it is a great way to stay motivated until the next visit.
In addition, nowadays, it is not too complicated to compile and edit your videos to create a film summarizing your reunion, which will be a real treasure for your relationship.
Take as many pictures and videos of you together as possible. This is something you can bring home with you after and that will also be a reminder of the happy days you had together.
Conclusion
Follow these long distance relationship tips and I am sure that your visits will always be memorable and romantic.
Making long distance relationship work can be really challenging. It can require a deeper level of patience, understanding, and trust. Just like any relationship, whether long distance love or not, you must learn how to give and take; especially during scheduled visits. I hope you took the time to read everything in detail, not just the main ideas, as everything here is important. Good luck with your reunion and have fun!
